Rangers Media held its first Charity Sportsman’s Dinner last Friday. And what a night it was!

The amazing sum of £4,000 was raised for the Scottish charity Moni Malawi to enable it to continue its superb work, principally in the area of education, in one of the poorest countries in the world. Please spend a few minutes to read more about the charity at www.monimalawi.co.uk

The venue for the Dinner was the Wee Rangers Club, a splendidly refurbished setting, and was suitably decorated for the capacity auGuests enjoying the eveningdience. The hall was described by one wit as ‘akin to Katie Price – bursting at the seams’. A satisfying meal of scotch broth, chicken Balmoral, and black forest gateau – great value at £25 a head – was washed down with a few shandies, then washed down again, and again .......

The guest speakers were masterfully selected by Scott McMillan, the event organiser. Bill McMurdo acted as MC for the evening and did a fine job – he truly is ‘one of us’. He introduced ex-Premiership referee Jeff Winter who regaled the crowd with incredible stories about his time as a b****** in the black. Then came the sing-song, sorry, Donald Findlay, same difference. Donald’s gift of expressive wit wrapped up in the control of an Ultimo straitjacket had the assembled bluenoses in raptures.

So to the real action of the evening; raising money for Malawi. The auction, raffle, and red/yellow cards were fantastically well supported, with the highlights being the auction of a Rangers share certificate from 1899, a signed Poppy shirt, and a framed cheque from the 1920s written from Rangers to Ayr. To raise £4,000 exceeded even the most optimistic predictions.

And so the night did indeed proceed to the sing-song - 'If you're happy and you know it', 'Agadoo', and 'D.I.S.C.O.’. Or some such songs. Suffice to say the congregation was in fine voice and all were singing from the same Hymn sheet.

Founder James Grant commented: “Since its inception in 2005 www.rangersmedia.co.uk has provided a community for all Rangers fans worldwide to enjoy and we are proud to be the fastest growing online Rangers forum. The support of our great club is truly global and the success of the Charity Sportsman’s Dinner is the next step in establishing us as the Rangers site. The night was a success on every level – Rangers Media’s first ever Dinner, the money raised for Moni Malawi, and the enjoyment had by the punters who attended in such numbers.”

A massive ‘thank you’ from all at Rangers Media and Moni Malawi.
