Rangers lifted their 53rd title today, breaking our own fantastic world record. The game today was second to the party, however it is always good to bow out from a season with a win and a good performance.
With many players facing today's game being their last for the club, the game against the Steelmen took on importance for more reasons than the actual result.
The champions broke the deadlock when Kris Boyd fired Rangers into the lead with a neat turn and finish in the box.
We then doubled our advantage when Steven Naismith crossed to partner Kyle Lafferty who scored on the volley.
Jamie Murphy fired a reply five minutes after the break for Well, but Rangers re-established their 2-goal cushion when Lafferty stabbed in Rangers’ third after 70 minutes. Motherwell looked to be heading for defeat until Steve Jennings headed home at the second attempt after Weir’s poor clearance following a fine Alexander save.
Alexander’s misery was complete when a dubious penalty was given for his challenge on Murphy in the 93rd minute and Lukas Jutkiewicz slotted home the resulting penalty for Motherwell’s second remarkable comeback in as many games.
However the game fell to insignificance when the title was given to Weir to lift, some fantastic scenes which you can see now in the following video:
