The Mighty Gers are back for the pre-season with today’s trip to Dumfries to play in the testimonial for Jim Thomson.

Rangers fielded a very strong starting eleven for the game to give the top guys a good run out. The bench though was packed with exiting youngsters who were all itching at the bit to get into the action.
Rangers started the game with Whittaker on the left flank with a lack of options in that position, hopefully a problem that can be rectified before the start of the season. It took until the second half though before Rangers could claim their first goal of the season and it was a good ball by Naismith who gave Miller the chance to notch the Gers ahead.
This signalled the changes from the bench with most of the guys getting a game, including the surprise of Alexander appearing in goal for Queens. An injury to the Doonhamers keeper with no sub saw Rangers offer Alexander the chance to pit his skills against the best SPL club.
All in all a decent work out for the Gers before the long trip to OZ in a couple of days time.
It’s good to get home football back on the agenda.
