A 1-0 Win over a team which we've struggled against in recent seasons in our first meaningful pre-season game. I think it was a good performance from the majority of the team. We Struggled in the first half, IMO caused by a lack of width - Whittaker did well at holding the width on the left but Naismith kept coming inside looking for the ball and asking Broadfoot to push forward - obviously leaving alot of room in our right back area.
Lafferty and Miller both looked lively - albeit unlucky not to get a couple of goals - Roderik Mckenzie played well in the queens goal before Papac tried to kill him?
Second half started bizzarely with Neil Alexander going into the Queens goal - A touch of class from our club, we could have easily made them play with a CB in goals but Walter wouldn't have it. Got our goal early on - great through ball and a good finish from Kenny - lofted over the keeper. Had a few other chances - both fleck and lafferty having chances blocked on route to goal.
Made a total of 9 changed in the second half - Wylde, Fleck, Perry, Shinnie and Wilson all looking good - Delighted to get our season underway with a win.
&
McGregor - 7 - Didn't have a whole lot to do, what he had to do, he did well.
Broadfoot - 5 - Looked defensivly shakey and naive with his final ball going forward - Dan Carmichael ran him ragged and I really fear if he is our first choice right back.
Webster - 9 - I thought he was immense - Physical, good in the air and was heard talking the whole way throught the game - with him and Weir we had a voice and both were singing the same notes.
Weir - 8 - Did well against a difficult striker in Holmes.
Papac - 7 - Solid in the tackle and always looked to get forward, involved in the clash that caused Mckenzie to go off but solid enough.
Naismith - 5 - Drifted inside far too often and that put pressure on Broadfoot. Lost the ball a little to often and will need to improve.
Davis - 8 - We quite simply need to keep hold of him, Assured on the ball, always looking for it. Having him in the middle is exactly what we have wanted and the signs were promising.
Mcculoch - 6 - Solid in the tackle - as you'd expect. A threat from corners and protected the back 4 well.
Whittaker - 6 - Never got into the game until the second half when he was bizzarely playing off Miller with Lafferty on the left.
Lafferty 7 - Came looking for the ball and actually looked fairly confident. Our pantomime villain got his usual boo's from the home support - Signs were promising.
Miller - 8 - Got the goal, looked a little off the pace but his movement was as always industrius.
